Grand View's Obsie Birru (Des Moines, Iowa) was named the NAIA National Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, the national office announced on Wednesday. Birru was selected based on her performances from Feb. 6 – 12.  It is the fourth time in her career that Birru has won an NAIA national weekly honor – three for track and one for cross country.  

Birru starred at the Midwest Collegiate Conference 2012 Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 11. She played a key role in Grand View's team title; recording individual first-place finishes in the 800-meter dash (2:23.42), mile run (5:17.59), 3,000-meter run (10:18.55) and 5,000-meter run (17:55.04), before running the final leg of the Viking's top finishing 4x800-meter relay team (10:07.53). Birru's time in the 3,000 meters set a meet record and qualifies the senior for the NAIA championships.

Viking senior Obsie Birru (Des Moines, Iowa) won her third MCC Women's Track Athlete of the Week award announced by the league Monday.

Birru won the 800 meters, mile, 3,000 and 5,000 and also was a member of the Vikings' winning 4 x 800 relay team, earning her MCC Track Athlete of the Year honors at the MCC Indoor Championships in Sterling, Ill., last weekend.

The Viking men & women compete this Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Wartburg Invitational in Waverly. Events start at 10 a.m.

The Grand View women's track & field team won its fourth straight Midwest Collegiate Conference Indoor title at Westwood Sports Center in Sterling, Illinois, on Saturday. The Vikings won six individual events and a relay, scoring 181 team points and outscored runner-up St. Ambrose by 21 points (160). Ashford was third (112.5) followed by Mount Mercy (95), Clarke (67) Viterbo (43.5), William Penn (30), and Iowa Wesleyan (5).

Senior All-American Obsie Birru (Des Moines, Iowa) was selected as the MCC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. Birru won the 800m, Mile, 3000m, and 5000m races and ran the anchor leg of the winning 4x800m relay. Her time in the 3000m was a meet record and NAIA automatic qualifying mark.

Grand View Head Coach Jerry Monner was voted by his peers as the MCC Coach of the Year.

Viking senior Kara Keller (Middletown, Iowa) has been selected as the MCC Women's Track Athlete of the week announced today.

Keller was honored for her performances at the Cornell Hilltop Invitational last weekend where she won the 800 meters  in an NAIA ‘A' standard 2:17.63. She also ran the lead leg of the Vikings' winning 4 x 800 relay team which ran in a ‘B' standard time of 9:50.15.

Next up for the Viking track & field teams is the MCC Indoor Championships this Saturday, Feb. 11, in Sterling, Ill. Events begin at 10 a.m.
