
The Vikings men's indoor track & field team competed at the Warburg Invite in Waverly Saturday.
The team placed third overall in the field of seven teams highlighted by a first place national qualifying finish by the 4x400m relay team of Wes Hammer, Zach Vos, Alex Alvarez, and Bryce Adger. The team finished in a GV school record time of 3:20.41.
Other top finishes for GV were by Pete Westerkamp in the 60m hurdles (1st), Adger in the triple jump (1st), Cy Williams in the weight throw (1st), Toi Jones (2nd) and Keonte White (3rd) in the 60m dash, Keonte White in the 400m dash (2nd), and Craig Cicero in the 3000m (3rd).

GV senior Tyler Wells (Des Moines, Iowa) was selected as this week's MCC Men's Field Athlete of the Year announced Monday.
Wells won the shot put and was second in the weight throw at the MCC Indoor Championships last Saturday in Sterling, Ill.
The Viking men & women compete this Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Wartburg Invitational in Waverly. Events start at 10 a.m.

The Grand View men's track & field team defended its Midwest Collegiate Conference Indoor Track & Field title at the Westwood Sports Center in Sterling, Illinois, on Saturday. The Viking men won three individual events and a relay, tallying 207 team points, to outscore runner-up Ashford by 33 points (174). St. Ambrose was third with 101, followed by Mount Mercy (80), William Penn (67), Clarke (36), Iowa Wesleyan (26, and Viterbo (8). It was GV's second straight title and third in four years.
Senior All-American Tyler Wells (Des Moines, Iowa) was selected as MCC Men's Field co-Athlete of the Year. Wells won the shot put competition with an NAIA automatic national qualifying mark of 16.43m (53' 11") which was a conference meet record and a GV school record. Wells also placed second in the weight throw with a toss of 17.32m (56'10") also an NAIA automatic qualifying mark.
Grand View Head Coach Jerry Monner was voted by his peers as the MCC Coach of the Year.

Grand View senior Pete Westerkamp was honored by the conference today as the MCC Men's Track Athlete of the Week for his performances on the track over the weekend.
Westerkamp won both the 60-meter hurdles and the triple jump at the Cornell College Hilltop Invitational. His time of 8.36 seconds in the hurdles met the NAIA ‘B' standard for provisional qualification to the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships in March and set a new GV school record. His mark of 42-9 ½ was a personal best in the triple jump.
