
Ben Wollam (Marshalltown, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to compete for the nationally-rated Grand View men's golf team announced by Head Coach Chris Winkel.
Wollam is a four-year varsity letter winner and First Team All-State selection from Marshalltown High School. He has been named to the CIML All-Conference Team three times. His best round last fall for MHS was a 70 in a dual against Fort Dodge. Wollam took medalist honors several times, including at the Southeast Polk Invite and the Mark Mann Invite. Last summer, also was the American Legion Golf Course men's champion, fourth at the PGA Junior Iowa Section Championship and took part in The Optimist International Junior Golf Championships.
The Grand View men's golf team moved up three spots to No. 2 from last season's final poll in the NAIA Men's Golf Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll released on Friday.
The Vikings garnered the three remaining first-place nods and pulled in 454 points. Grand View boasts this week's Midwest Collegiate Conference Player of the Week in sophomore David Walter. Walter shot a 69-70-73=212 at the River Oaks Intercollegiate Tournament as the Vikings finished second behind Oklahoma Christian.
Oklahoma Christian took the top spot in the poll with 465 first place votes. Following the No. 2 Vikings are No. 3 Oklahoma City, No. 4 Northwood (Fla.) and No. 5 Lee (Tenn.).

Grand View sophomore David Walter (Eau Claire, Wis.) was voted as the Midwest Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for men's golf announced today.
Walter was recognized for his performance at the Oklahoma Christian Intercollegiate meet last week. Walter finished third individually at the tourney with a three-round score of one-under par (69-70-73 = 212) and led the Vikings to a second place finish in an event that featured seven of the top-rated men's golf in the nation. Grand View finished second to Oklahoma Christian, the top rated team in the nation in last week's Golf World/Nike Poll as well as the NAIA, and in front of Oklahoma City who was rated as the top team in the NAIA Poll in the spring of 2011 and the No. 7 team in the most recent Golf World/Nike Poll.
The latest Golf World/Nike Golf NAIA College Coaches' Poll has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
The Grand View men's golf team continues to be ranked as the No. 2 team in the nation by Golf World/Nike.
Oklahoma Christian sits at the top of the poll with No. 3 Lee, No. 4 Texas Wesleyan and No. 5 Johnson & Wales rounding out the top five.
The complete results, including results from Divisions I, III and III, will appear in the November 7, 2011 issue of Golf World. .

The Viking men's golf team, ranked second in the Golf World's NAIA men's golf rankings, shot 290 in the windy final round to finish behind Oklahoma Christian University for second place. Grand View's three-day total of 856 was only six shots behind Oklahoma Christian in the Oklahoma Christian Intercollegiate Tuesday at River Oaks Golf Club.
The Vikings shot rounds of 283-283 on the first two days to keep them within shouting distance of the host school. Oklahoma Christian is currently rated first in the NAIA, and the tournament featured seven of the top fifteen schools in the country.
Sophomore David Walter (Eau Claire, WI) fired an opening round 69 to place him in a tie for first after day one. Walter followed his spectacular first round with rounds of 70 and 73 to finish in third place.
