The Viking men's basketball entered Saturday's road contest at Waldorf College with a spot in the MCC post-season tournament. Grand View came out ready to play early on in the afternoon contest and made plays late in the game to gain the 75-73 conference victory.
Grand View, who had struggled to score in their last two outings, came out on fire in the first half and built a 14 point advantage with less than 13 minutes remaining. However, the Warriors forced the Vikings into turnovers that they were able to convert into easy offense. Waldorf closed within four at half, 42-38.
After twenty minutes of play Grand View shot 52 from the field and an impressive 50 percent from behind the three-point line. Grand View got three point baskets from sophomore Kody Ingle (3-7), junior Isiah Cunningham (1-1) and senior Josh Henry (2-4) in the first half. Cunningham gave the Vikings a huge lift off the bench, sparking the offense with seven points in his six minutes of first half action.
Although the offense did not come as easy early in the second half, Grand View still was able to hold a seven point lead inside of three minutes to play. Waldorf would turn up the defensive pressure and get to the free throw line to crawl back into the game. Waldorf's Greg Howell converted on a jump shot to tie the game at 73-73 with only 40 seconds remaining.

Wednesday night saw two of the top defensive teams in the Midwest Collegiate Conference square off inside Kehl Arena on the campus of Ashford University. And much like the statistics showed the defenses of both teams shined and the Saints used an advantage at the free throw line to gain the 45-40 victory.
The Vikings held a ten point advantage at the end of the first half as they held Ashford to just six field goals. However, the second half saw a reverse in the shooting woes, as the Vikings were only able to convert on five made field goals. Although the Saints did not shoot the ball well in the final twenty minutes they were able to get to the free throw line 22 times compared to the Vikings 9 times.
Grand View led by as many as ten points three times in the first half and held their biggest lead of the night with 15:33 to go in regulation. But then it was the home team's turn to make a run, as the Saints went on a 17-4 scoring run to cut into Grand View's lead.
The Saints were then able to convert from the charity stripe for the final nine minutes of the game. Seniors Peter Tanzillo, Jason Landry and Jonathan Wyatt all were able to score from the free-throw line to take the lead late in the contest.

Six Viking seniors finished their home careers on Monday evening in a big way against Faith Baptist College. With 11:25 left in the first half and score tied at 14-14, the Vikings ran away from the Eagles to gain the lopsided 82-34 victory. The Vikings were led in scoring by sophomore Kody Ingle (Altoona, IA) who finished the game with 18 points, while senior Kevin Smith (Ankeny, IA) finished in double figures with 11 points.
The Eagles and Vikings traded baskets early in the first half, but an offensive rebound by senior Phil Hunt (Iowa City, IA) resulted in a Jordan Young (Aplington, IA) lay-up that started an amazing scoring run. Grand View went into the halftime break on a 33-7 run that gave the Vikings a 39-21 lead.
The second half saw the Vikings continue their dominance on the defensive end as they held the Eagles to 13 points, four of which came in the final thirty seconds of action. Grand View held the Eagles scoreless for an eight minute stretch in the second half.

The Viking men's basketball team concluded their MCC home season with a final contest against the Viterbo V-Hawks on Saturday afternoon. Grand View used their size and strength inside to overpower Viterbo, as the Vikings out rebounded the visitors by sixteen. The stingy Viking defense held Viterbo scoreless for the first six minutes of the second half to pull away and gain the 66-52 MCC victory.
Neither team could find any rhythm offensively in the first half, as both teams shot 36 percent from the floor. The Vikings held a 28-25 lead heading into the intermission, as senior Kevin Smith (Ankeny, IA) and sophomore Kody Ingle (Altoona, IA) led the scoring with nine apiece. Senior Josh Henry (Winterset, IA) chipped in seven points in the first half.
