The Viking men broke out of their recent shooting slump on Wednesday evening in front of a full Sisam Arena. Grand View shot 52 percent from the floor and 45 percent from behind the three-point stripe to defeat a feisty AIB group, 87-62.
Grand View was led in scoring by senior Kevin Smith (Ankeny, IA). Smith put together his best night of his three year Viking career, finishing with game-highs in points and rebounds. The forward scored 30 points on 14-of-20 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds.

It was a tale of two halves for the Viking men's basketball team as they faced Clarke in league play Saturday in Dubuque.
Eight players contributed to a balanced scoring attack and the Vikings shot 48% in the first half to hold a comfortable 34-23 halftime lead.
GV struggled to score in the second half and shot just 20% from the field and 10% from the three-point line. The Crusaders outscored the Vikings 34-17 in the second half and came back to defeat the Vikings 57-51. Clarke improved to 14-8, 6-6 MCC with the win.

A three-point basket from the right wing with 1.6 seconds left in the game on Thursday night from Iowa Wesleyan's Jeremy Simmons lifted the Tigers to a 65-62 win over the Vikings of Grand View.
The Vikings found themselves trailing by three with under a minute remaining in the game when sophomore Chad Malloy put up a deep three-point basket from the top of the key that found the bottom of the net to tie the game at 62-62. Simmons, one of the top scorers in the MCC, was held in check for much of the night but his second three-pointer of the night gave the Tigers the victory.
Once again the Vikings found themselves in a back and forth contest that neither team was able to pull away from the other. Neither team had a lead bigger than three points for the final 15 minutes of the second half.
The Viking offense struggled in the second half shooting just 2-of-8 from behind the three-point line, finishing the contest at 28 percent. The second half also saw Grand View go only 10-of-30 from the field, while the visiting Tigers shot 50 percent from three in the second half.

The Viking men took on newly ranked Mount Mercy College on Monday night, but Grand View didn't let the ranking affect them on the road, as they pulled out a 64-61 Midwest Collegiate Conference victory. Grand View, who was in the midst of a three-game losing streak, used a strong defensive effort and hot shooting in the second half to get the win.
Mount Mercy came in to the contest averaging over 73 points per game and ranked second in the conference in average points per game. However, the Vikings put together a strong defensive effort, allowing only two Mustangs to reach double figures. The Mustangs turned the ball over 15 times against the Viking defense and shot 30 percent from three-point range.
The Viking offense struggled early in the game, shooting only 29 percent in the first half and going 2-of-13 from behind the arc in the first twenty minutes of the contest. Despite the first half struggles offensively Grand View only trailed by four at the half.
The Vikings and Mustangs went back-and-forth for the entire second half without either team being able to pull away from the other. Both teams found their shooting touches, as Mount Mercy shot 54 percent from the field, while Grand View connected on 8 of their 14 three-point attempts in the second half. Sophomore Kody Ingle (Altoona, IA) led the way in the second half for Grand View as he shot 4-of-6 from deep in the final twenty minutes of the game.

The Viking men's basketball team hosted Waldorf College to Sisam Arena on Saturday afternoon to close out the first half of the MCC conference season. Unfortunately for the Vikings the first half did not end as planned, as Grand View dropped the contest 75-61.
The Vikings fell behind midway through the first half and found themselves trailing 37-25 at halftime. The first half saw Grand View shoot 34 percent from the floor, while the Warriors connected on 42 percent of their shots.
In the second half Grand View was able to chip away at the lead, coming as close as two points with just over seven minutes remaining in the game. However that was all the closer the home team would get, as they were only to score ten points over the final seven minutes.
Grand View continued their struggles from the floor, as they shot 39 percent from the field, 29 percent from behind the three-point line and 54 percent from the free throw line. The Vikings out rebounded the Warriors 38-31, including a conference-season high of 15 offensive rebounds.
