
The Viking women's track & field team hit three national qualifying marks and set a school record Saturday at the Wartburg Lutheran Triangular in Waverly.
GV took first and second place in the weight throw with two NAIA ‘A' standard marks. Lauryn Camp won the event with a toss of 16.59m (54' 5 ¼") and Colleen Frank was second with a 15.31m (50' 2 ¾").
Obsie Birru took third in the 3,000m with an NAIA ‘A" standard time of 10:18.26.

Viking senior Obsie Birru (Des Moines, Iowa) was selected as the MCC Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the second straight week.
Birru won the 5,000 in an NAIA ‘A' qualifying time of 17:47.40 and anchored GVU's distance medley relay to a seventh place finish in an NAIA automatic qualifying time of 12:25.12 at the Iowa State Open last Friday night.
She then returned to Iowa State on Saturday to place fifth in the mile with another automatic national qualifying time of 5:05.71 and placed eighth in the 800 with a ‘B' qualifying time of 2:20.04.
Birru and the Vikings will compete in Waverly on Saturday at the Wartburg Lutheran Triangular.

The Viking women's track and field teams qualified for nationals in two events and placed second at the Cornell Invitational in Mount Vernon on Saturday. The ladies won two events and placed twelve in the top three to finish with 112 team points, behind St. Ambrose who won the event with 2-1 points.
Two Viking throwers hit national qualifying marks in the Weight Throw. Lauryn Camp won the event with an NAIA ‘A' standard throw of 16.05m and Colleen Frank took second with an ‘A" standard toss of 15.30m.

The Vikings indoor track & field team sent its distance runners to the ISU Open in Ames on Friday and Saturday. It was a successful outing for the ladies who produced four national qualifying marks and a personal best performance.
On Friday, senior Obsie Birru won the seeded 5,000m race with an NAIA automatic qualifying time of 17:47.40. She then anchored the Distance Medley relay team of Kara Keller-Maggie Pestotnik-Betsy Craig and Birru that placed seventh in the NAIA automatic qualifying time of 12:25.12.
Sadie Fisher competed in the non-seeded 5,000m run and completed the race with a personal best time of 19:42.85.

Grand View senior Obsie Birru (Des Moines, Iowa) has been selected as the Midwest Collegiate Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week announced Monday.
Birru was rewarded for her performances at the UNI Panther Open last Saturday in Cedar Falls.
Competing among many NCAA Division I runners, Birru won the 3,000 meters with an NAIA ‘A' standard time of 10:16.71 and placed third in the 1000m with an NAIA ‘B' standard time of 3:03.41. She was also third in the mile and fifth in the 600m.
The Viking track and field teams next compete at the Cornell Invitational in Mount Vernon this Saturday, Jan. 21.
