The second seeded Grand View University volleyball team was defeated by third seed Viterbo University in Wednesday night's MCC Tournament semi-final match. The Vikings, who defeated the V-Hawks earlier in the regular season, were defeated 26-24, 19-25, 21-25, 25-19, 10-15. The loss ended the Vikings very successful season under head coach Tina Carter.

The Vikings were able to take the first set with a come from behind victory. The Vikings trailed late in the first set, but were able to battle back and take a 24-23 lead. With the set tied at 24 all, the V-Hawks committed two errors giving Grand View the victory. The Vikings took an early 4-0 lead in the second set, until the V-Hawks were able to put together a serving rally of ten straight points. In true Vikings fashion, they battled their way back into the match, tying it at 14 all. But unlike the first set, Viterbo was able to slowly pull away to take the victory and tie the match.

Grand View and Viterbo traded points back and forth early in the third set, until Grand View was able to take control and get a 15-12 lead. The V-Hawks showed why they were the number three seed as they fought their way back in the match, tying it at 20. The Vikings were unable to get a side out as Viterbo took the final five points to win the third set. The Vikings, proving their second seed in the tournament, would not go away. With the game tied at 14, Grand View scored 9 out of the next 10 points to take a 23-15 lead. The Vikings closed out the set with a 25-19 victory. In the fifth and deciding set, the V-Hawks offense came out firing and the Vikings were not able to get things going on their offensive end. Despite a great effort the Vikings were defeated 15-10.
