A select group Grand View track & field athletes competed in the Doane Last Chance meet in Crete, Nebraska on Friday evening. It was definitely a worth while trip as the Vikings hit four NAIA national qualifying marks and broke five school records.

Freshman thrower Devon Jensen had an outstanding meet shattering the GV school record in the javelin by over two meters with an NAIA automatic national qualifying mark of 43.55m which currently ranks her seventh in the nation. Jensen also hit an NAIA automatic qualifying mark in the discus breaking her own school record with a toss of 42.57m.

Grand View track & field coach Jerry Monner has announced the signing of Nick Lobberecht (Oskaloosa H.S./Oskaloosa, Iowa) to his 2010-11 recruiting class. Lobberecht has been a team leader for Oskaloosa High School competing in the 110m and 400m hurdles as well as being a solid leg on the Indians shuttle hurdle and 4x400m relay teams. He has also been awarded academic all-conference honors for the Little Hawkeye Conference.

Coach Monner said "Nick's an outstanding student-athlete that works hard on the track and in the classroom. He'll be a good addition to our hurdle crew next year and will only continue to improve each season. We look forward to having him on our roster."

Wells won his second MCC title of the meet on Friday in the Shot Put
The Viking men were strong on day two of the MCC Track & Field Championships. Grand View was in third place after Thursday's events, but scored enough points on Friday to finish in second place with 202.5 points, behind winner St. Ambrose who scored 251 points.

After winning the Discus on Thursday, sophomore Tyler Wells (Des Moines, Iowa) also took first place in the Shot Put on Friday with a throw of 15.88m. Freshman Chris Nealy (Des Moines, Iowa) won his first MCC title in the 3,000m Steeplechase in a time of 10:00.88.

Tyler Wells set a new school record in the discus
The Grand View men's track & field team broke three school records and currenlty sits in second place at the conclusion of the first day of competition in the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships hosted by Grand View at Williams Stadium.

Sophomore Tyler Wells broke the school record in the discus winning the event with a mark of 43.85m. Pete Westerkamp placed second in the 400m hurdles in a school record time of 55.63 seconds and the Vikings 4x800m relay team of Drew Messerschmidt, Taelor Bohnsack, Austin Ward, and Nick Newcomb placed third in new school record time of 8:16.89.
