A three-point basket from the right wing with 1.6 seconds left in the game on Thursday night from Iowa Wesleyan's Jeremy Simmons lifted the Tigers to a 65-62 win over the Vikings of Grand View.

The Vikings found themselves trailing by three with under a minute remaining in the game when sophomore Chad Malloy put up a deep three-point basket from the top of the key that found the bottom of the net to tie the game at 62-62. Simmons, one of the top scorers in the MCC, was held in check for much of the night but his second three-pointer of the night gave the Tigers the victory.

Once again the Vikings found themselves in a back and forth contest that neither team was able to pull away from the other. Neither team had a lead bigger than three points for the final 15 minutes of the second half.

The Viking offense struggled in the second half shooting just 2-of-8 from behind the three-point line, finishing the contest at 28 percent. The second half also saw Grand View go only 10-of-30 from the field, while the visiting Tigers shot 50 percent from three in the second half.

The Vikings now an eight-game winning streak after prevailing over the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers, 66-61 on Thursday night in Des Moines. No. 10 Grand View is now 18-5 overall and beating the Tigers moved them to 10-1 in the MCC. Iowa Wesleyan dropped to 11-9 overall and 7-4 in the conference.

After five tie game situations and two lead changes in the first half, the Vikings decided to make some adjustments.

"Even though we were up seven at halftime, we were not satisfied with our defensive effort at times in the first half," said Coach Garey Smith.

"We were pleased with the number of rebounds our girls were able to grab but that did not keep the points off the board for the Tigers. Steve does a great job of getting his girls to play hard and we knew they weren't going to back down in the second half, so we needed to sharpen up," added Smith.
