Garey Smith - Head Coach - 10th Season
Garey Smith will be entering his tenth season at Grand View. Smith has led the Vikings to three trips to the conference championship game and advancing to the NAIA National Tournament in 2003 and 2010. The Vikings had the most successful season in program history in 2009-10, advancing to the Elite 8 of the NAIA Championships.

A native of Nevada, Iowa, Smith came to the Vikings from William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa. In 18 seasons with the women's program at William Penn, he coached the Statesmen to six Iowa Conference titles and five NCAA Division III tournament appearances. Smith coached eight NCAA Division III All-Americans, twelve 1,000-point scorers and one 2,000-point scorer. He was honored in 1986, 1988, and 1989 with the Converse Regional Coach of the Year award.

Smith is a 1974 and 1986 graduate of Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri. His first head coaching job was with Fairfax H.S. in Fairfax, Missouri, where he led the team to the 1980 state championship. In 1989, Smith was inducted into the Missouri H.S. Coach's Hall of Fame.

Coach Smith resides in Maxwell with his wife Carole.

Brent Walker - Assistant Coach - 3rd Season
After spending five seasons as a high school coach in Central Iowa, Coach walker joined the Viking staff in 2008. He is now in his third year as assistant varsity basketball coach.
 
While at Grand View, Walker has helped to lead the Vikings to a 50-18 record and a trip to the Elite 8 of the NAIA Championships. In addition to his on-court responsibilities, Walker is a primary recruiter for the women's basketball program.
 
Coach Walker resides in Ankeny and is the proud father of his 7-year old daughter Lillian.

Trent Smith - Assistant Coach - 1st Season
Trent Smith begins his first season with the Vikings as a varsity assistant and head JV coach. Prior to Grand View, Smith spent two years as an assistant girls' basketball coach at Saydel High School. In addition to coaching at Grand View, Smith is currently the head boys' tennis coach at Des Moines East High School.

Jamie Sickels - Grad Assistant - 1st Season
Sickles is a graduate of Wapsie Valley High School in Northeast Iowa, where she was a three-time First Team All-Conference selection, named to the All-District team twice, and a McDonald's All-American nominee. She led her team to a State Tournament appearance her senior year and still holds the Iowa High School assist record.
 
Sickles spent two seasons at Des Moines Area Community College before transferring to Grand View in the fall of 2008. She was a two-year starter for the Vikings, a two-time MCC Honorable Mention selection, and earned MCC Academic All-Conference honors.
 
Sickles will graduate from Grand View in the spring of 2011 with her degree in Nursing.
