Nick Mitchell Image
Nick Mitchell - Head Coach
Head Coach Nick Mitchell begins his first year at Grand View and will lead the inaugural wrestling squad in the fall of 2008. Mitchell comes to Grand View after serving as the assistant wrestling coach at Wartburg College for the past nine seasons.

During his nine seasons at Wartburg, the Knights collected three national dual and team championships and were the runner-ups three times.

Mitchell wrestled his college career at Wartburg where he was a three-time Iowa Conference champion and three-time NCAA Division III All-American. Individually, he finished second at the national championships once and was third twice, and was a part of the 1999 national championship team Mitchell was team captain for the Knights and was named the team's Outstanding Wrestler twice. He compiled 114 wins as a Knight which ranks seventh-best on the school's all-time win list.

Mitchell, a Johnston native, graduated from the Wartburg in 2000 with a degree in Elementary Education. He will complete his Master's Degree in Education from Viterbo University this summer.

Michael Billings - Assistant Coach

Billings is a 2002 graduate from Clear Lake High School and was a two-time state place winner. He was a two time all-American for Waldorf College in 2004 and 2006. Billings was an assistant coach at Waldorf College in 2007 and at NIACC in 2008.


Jake Helvey Image
Jake Helvey - Assistant Coach

Helvey is a 2008 graduate of Wartburg College where he placed 5th in the nation as a junior and was a national runner-up and Iowa Conference champion as a senior. Helvey was named an All-American twice at Wartburg.

Helvey graduated from Southeast Polk High School in 2004 where he placed 7th at state as a junior and 5th as a senior. He also wrestled on the Greco Roman National team as a junior and senior.


Grant Turner Image
Grant Turner - Assistant Coach
Grant Turner begins his first season as assistant coach at Grand View after completing his academic and athletic career at Iowa State University.

Turner was a four-year letter winner at Iowa State under Cyclone head coaches Cael Sanderson and Bobby Douglas. He was part of the Big XII Conference Championship Team and placed third individually at the Big XII Tournament in 2007. Turner was also an NCAA Tournament Qualifier at 174 lbs. in 2007 in which the Cyclones placed second as a team.

Turner received his bachelor's degree in Sports Management with Kinesiology and Health option from Iowa State in 2007. He is currently a full-time personal trainer at 7 Flags Fitness Center in West Des Moines.
