Lou A. Yacinich
Head Coach - 16th Season

Coach Yacinich is beginning his 16th season at the helm of the Grand View University softball program. The program has qualified to the NAIA National Tournament 5 times: 2006, 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017.

Coach Yacinich is an alumnus of Grand View and played baseball from 1981-1985. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in 1985. He earned his Master of Arts in Leadership from Bellevue University in 2008.

Coach Yacinich has been involved in the NAIA at a high level.  He served as President of the NAIA Softball Coaches Association in 2012-13. He also served on the NAIA Softball Tournament Committee for many years.

Coach Yacinich was fortunate to play Men’s Major Open Fastpitch softball for 10 years. He is a member of the following: Grand View Athletic Hall of Fame, Des Moines Mens Fastpitch Softball Hall of Fame, and the Iowa Amateur Softball Association Men’s Fastpitch Hall of Fame.

Destiny Willer
Assistant Coach - 9th Season

Coach Willer is in her 9th season with the Grand View softball program, but is no stranger to Viking Athletics. Willer was an All-Conference and All-Region infielder for Grand View as well as an NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete from 2006-07. Willer has been a part of all five trips to the National Tournament the Viking softball Program has attended, the first being a player (’06) and the last four as a coach (’13,’15,’16, '17). Willer transferred to Grand View from Kirkwood Community College in 2005 where she was a National Junior College Athletic Association All-Region-First Team infielder. After graduating from Grand View, Willer was an assistant softball coach at the University of Northern Iowa (2007-08) and an assistant coach at Linn-Mar High School (2007-2009).

Willer earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and Health in 2009 from the University of Northern Iowa and earned her Master’s Degree in Sports Management from Grand View University in 2016. Willer is a Physical Education/Health teacher at Johnston High School and is the assistant softball coach where she has been a part of two state championships (’14, ’16) and two state runner-up finishes with the Dragons in her seven years with the program. 

Todd Merical
Assistant Coach - 7th Season
Ed Deugan
Assistant Coach - 4th Season

Coach Deugan is in his 4th season with Grand View Softball, and his 15th season as a college coach. Most recently he was the head softball coach at the University of Minnesota Crookston. He has earned 4-Star Master Coach certification from the National Fastpitch Coaches College.

A Des Moines native, Deugan earned his bachelor's degree in History and master's degree in Athletic Administration from the University of Iowa. He is the training coordinator at CrossRoads Shooting Sports in Johnston.
