Head Coach - 9th Season

Tina Carter begins her ninth season as head coach of the Viking volleyball program, amassing a record of 226-107. In the eight years under Carter’s direction, the Vikings have become one of the top volleyball programs in the NAIA.

Grand View won the MCC regular season title in 2011, 2012, and 2013, MCC Tournament titles in 2011 and 2013, and made national tournament appearances in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014. Carter was voted the MCC Coach of the Year in 2009, 2011 and 2013 and the AVCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 2011.

In 2014, the Vikings made the program's fourth-straight national tournament appearance and  were ranked in the NAIA Top 25 all season. In 2013, Grand View made a history-making run at the NAIA Championships where the team upset four higher-ranked programs and placed eighth overall. Chrissy Daggett became the first Viking volleyball player ever to be named to the All-Tournament Team at nationals.

Seven players were named to the Heart All-Conference Teams in 2015. Taylor Wells and Chrissy Daggett earned AVCA All-Region honors and Wells was selected as an NAIA Second Team All-American.

Carter was a member of the Iowa High Performance Coaching staff from 2008-12 and again in 2014, four of those seasons as a head coach. Her 2008 Iowa Region Girls Select Team, 2012 Iowa Region Girls Youth Team and 2014 Iowa Region Girls Youth International Teams all won silver medals. The past three seasons, Carter has been an assistant coach for the Iowa Ice Professional Volleyball League (PVL). The Iowa Ice placed second at the inaugural PVL Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2012, won the gold medal at the 2013 PVL Championships in Louisville, Ky and earned a bronze medal at the 2014 PVL Championships in Phoenix, Az.

Carter came to Grand View after serving as the volunteer assistant coach at Iowa State from 2005-2007 and the Assistant Coach at Drake from 2003-2005. She has also coached for Central Iowa Select VB Club and Iowa Power Volleyball Alliance (IPVA) and serves on the Iowa Region Board.

Carter played her collegiate career at Southern Methodist University on a full athletic scholarship. She captained the SMU volleyball team and was a member of the Academic All-WAC Team. Carter graduated from SMU in 1998 with a degree in psychology, and she completed her Master of Education Degree in sports management from Iowa State University in 2001.

Carter resides in Altoona with her husband, Scott, and their daughter, Lauren.

Assistant Coach - 8th Season

Donan  Cruz is in his eighth season as assistant coach for the Viking women's volleyball team.  During his time with the program, GV has  risen as  one of the top teams  in  the Midwest Collegiate Conference and in the  NAIA. Cruz is also head coach for the nationally-ranked Grand View men's volleyball program that finished as runner-up at the NAIA National Invitational in 2016 and was a national semifinalist in 2015. Cruz was named the 2014 and 2015 NAIA Men's Volleyball National Coach of the Year.

Cruz came to Grand View after serving as assistant coach for the IPVA 18's club team in 2009. He also spent a year as the head varsity coach of the boy's volleyball team at the University of Hawaii Laboratory High School.

Cruz played his collegiate career at Graceland University where he was an outside hitter and defensive specialist for the Yellowjackets.  He was team captain his junior and senior seasons, and graduated in 2006 with a degree in Marketing Communications.

Assistant Coach - 9th Season

Makani Cantor enters his ninth season as assistant coach for the Viking volleyball program and has been an instrumental part of the it's recent success, including a school record eighth place finish at the NAIA National Championships in 2013.

Cantor came  to Grand View after  serving  as  an  assistant  coach at  Northwestern State University  and  Graceland  University.   He also coaches for Iowa Power Volleyball Alliance as the program's 17's coach. In 2008, his team finished second in the Junior Olympic tournament.  Cantor also spent time with the Waukee Warrior Volleyball Club.

Cantor played collegiately at Graceland University.  He is a financial consultant for Wells Fargo and resides in West Des Moines.
