The Viking men's soccer team traveled to Chicago, Illinois, for two non-conference games over the weekend. The Vikings defeated Illinois Institute of Technology 1-0 on Friday and St. Xavier 3-2 on Saturday.

Junior Per Poulsen (Losning, Denmark) had a big weekend for Grand View with three goals in the two games. Poulsen scored the lone goal of the IIT match assisted by sophomore Danny Mullins (Hull, England).

Against St. Xavier, senior Augustine Faiz (Des Moines, Iowa) got the Vikings on the board with a goal nine minutes into the match. Poulsen scored the next two goals of the game, the second assisted by sophomore Jonny MacAdam (Glasgow, Scotland) off of a corner kick, to put GV up 3-0. SXU fought back to get within a goal, scoring in the 51^st minute and again in the 84^th minute on a PK. GV held on for the win to improve to 3-0 on the year.

The Vikings return home next Saturday, Sept. 4, to face Briar Cliff in non-conference action. Game time is 7 p.m. at Cownie Complex.
