Grand View University won both matches on the opening day of the Grand View University Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa. In front of a packed Charles S. Johnson Wellness Center, the Vikings defeated the College of Saint Mary (3-0) and Dakota State (3-1).

Grand View (3-0) will open Saturday morning against Park University at noon. The following and final match of the Grand View Tournament will take place at 4:00 pm against Missouri Valley.

In the first match on Friday afternoon, the high powered Vikings offense took control from the first game, never allowing the College of Saint Mary an opportunity to gain momentum. The host Vikings continued to score in bunches, winning in convincing fashion (25-17, 25-15, 25-21).

The second match of the tournament saw the Vikings take on a talented Dakota State squad. Despite an easy victory in the first game (25-16), the Vikings had to battle to take the second game (25-23). In the third set of the match, Grand View lost their first game of the tournament 23-25. However, the Vikings showed their toughness, bouncing back and defeating Dakota State 25-17 in the final game of the contest.
