The Viking men's soccer team opened the 2010 season tonight with a 5-0 win over St. Francis in Des Moines.
Three of Grand View's goals came from new members of this year's squad. Junior transfer Luis Heiter-Piffer had an impressive debut for the Vikings and scored both of GV's first half goals in the 27th and 32nd minutes. Jonny MacAdam scored a third goal in the 63rd minute assisted by Noah Acosta. Senior transfer Partryk Seppelt-Korajewski added a fourth goal just a minute and a half later and the final goal came from Noel Medina assisted by Danny Mullins in the 82nd minute.
Senior goalkeeper Darren Martin recorded four saves and a shutout. As a team, Grand View outshot St. Francis 23-11 and 14-4 in shots on goal.
The Vikings (1-0) hit the road and head to Chicago next weekend for two games. On Friday, GV tales on Illinois Institute of Technology at 5 p.m. and on Saturday face St. Xavier at 4 p.m.
