A select group Grand View track & field athletes competed in the Doane Last Chance meet in Crete, Nebraska on Friday evening. It was definitely a worth while trip as the Vikings hit four NAIA national qualifying marks and broke five school records.

Freshman thrower Devon Jensen had an outstanding meet shattering the GV school record in the javelin by over two meters with an NAIA automatic national qualifying mark of 43.55m which currently ranks her seventh in the nation. Jensen also hit an NAIA automatic qualifying mark in the discus breaking her own school record with a toss of 42.57m.

Sophomore All-American Obsie Birru won the 1,500m run in 4:37.12 breaking her previous school record by over four seconds. Her performance was an NAIA automatic national qualifying mark and ranks as the 11th fastest time in the NAIA this season. The women's 4x100m relay of Aneisha Parrish, Gretchen Lamar, Jessica Hamell, and Tabatha Carlson broke the GV school record with a time of 49.08 seconds punching their ticket to the NAIA National Championships as their time surpassed the NAIA provisional standard.

On the men's side freshman Chris Nealy ran a school record time of 9:44.53 in the 3,000m steeplechase narrowly missing the NAIA provisional qualifying standard. Pete Westerkamp had a fourth place finish in the 400m hurdles running 55.71 seconds just missing the national qualifying mark by .4 tenths of a second. Sophomore Taelor Bohnsack ran his season's best time of 2:02.08 in the 800m run.

The Viking track & field teams are idle until the NAIA National Championships on May 27th - 29th in Marion, Indiana hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.
