The Vikings took to the field in the opening game of the Midwest Collegiate Conference tournament as the number 2 seed, after finishing in a tie with Iowa Wesleyan for first place. Grand View's offense took control of the game, knocking in 13 runs on 16 hits, while only giving up two runs to V-Hawks of Viterbo.

The Vikings wasted little time attacking the V-Hawks with an offensive onslaught, with five of the first six batters reaching base. The inning began with a Cory Burnes double to center field that followed with a Chris Cutler bunt single. Burnes scored on a Viterbo infield error, while Cutler scored the second run of the inning when Curtis Quijano singled to through the left side. The final run of the inning scored when Brady Wathen singled to left field, scoring Dunn.

Grand View scored again in the second inning on a Marc Mericle double to right center to push their early lead to 4-1. Starting pitcher Jared Meggison would dominate Viterbo the rest of the contest, pitching a complete game nine innings and allowing only two runs. Meggison allowed a solo home run in the first inning and one more solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, en route to his 13-2 win. Six V-Hawks struck out against Meggison in the opening round game, while only five runs were able to get hits off the Vikings starter.

Grand View's top six batters accounted for 15 of the Vikings 16 hits, including ten of the 12 RBIs. The Vikings lone home run came off the bat of Mericle, which accounted for one of his three hits. Wathen and Quijano also swung hot bats against Viterbo, finishing with three hits apiece while Quijano drove home three runs.
