Micah Reed now holds GV career assist record with 615 total assists
The Grand View University women's basketball team wrapped up one of the most successful seasons in program history with its end-of-the year recognition banquet on April 18th.

Head Coach Garey Smith acknowledged this year's team and individual contributions during the awards banquet. The MCC Tourney runner-ups received an at-large bid to the National Championships held in Sioux City. It was the program's second trip to the national tournament under Smith; its last trip in 2002-03. The ladies upset top-seeded Hastings College in the Sweet Sixteen to advance to the program's first-ever Elite 8 appearance. Shawnee State, who went on to contend for the national title, halted the Vikings' run with a 75-55 defeat in the quarterfinals.

Coach Smith praised this year's senior class who leaves the program with a long list of accomplishments. The Vikings had three seniors - Micah Reed, Bailey Schechinger, and Jamie Sickles - in its starting lineup in 2009-10. The trio led Grand View to a 27-9 overall record and a 13-3 record in the Midwest Collegiate Conference for second place.

Seniors Reed and Schechinger were recognized for career achievements at the banquet.

Reed broke the long-standing career assist record during the 2009-10 season. She finished with 615 total assists for her four-year career at Grand View. The longtime record was previously held by Monica Davis (522 - 1980-84).

Schechinger's 775 career rebounds moved her into second place in the record books. She is finished her career second in career blocks (128) and fifth in career scoring (1,473 points).

Both Reed and Schechinger end their careers as four-year starters and letter winners for the Vikings. In the four-year span of the two players, the Vikings were 85-46 and had three consecutive 20+ win seasons (2007-10).

"Micah and Bailey have had tremendous careers in their four years at Grand View. It was great to see both of them go out on top, having accomplished what no other women's basketball team in Grand View history has achieved in playing in the Elite 8 of the national tournament," said Coach Smith.
