The Grand View men's soccer team held an indoor soccer tournament for fourth and fifth graders at the C.S .Johnson Wellness Center on Sunday, April 10th, as a part of NAIA's Champion of Character initiative. The men's soccer team has been working with Capital View Elementary Boy Scouts of America in Des Moines to help promote the 12 core values that the Boy Scouts of America represent.

Grand View men's soccer players Chris Scott, Rich Bywater, Ryan Adamson, Jonny Macadam, Manny Gutierrez, and Wes Dawson have put in over 55 hours with the students, and the 10-week program ends April 25th. These players want to help implement soccer as a way for the boy scouts to start up and/or create interest for the cub packs, so they can experience the "scouting way of life."

The NAIA Champions of Character (COC) program instills an understanding of character values in sport and provides practical tools for student-athletes, coaches and parents to use in developing exemplary character traits. The COC initiative revolves around the five core values that the NAIA embraces - integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
