It may have taken seven years, but Grand View (Iowa) was able to get revenge against Hastings (Neb.) with a 69-61 second-round victory Friday at the 19th Annual State Farm-NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena.

Hastings spent the final four polls of the regular season as the nation's top-ranked team and had won 10 straight games prior to Friday's loss. Grand View was not intimidated though. Any jitters the Vikings had turned into adrenaline and drive en route to the upset of the twelve-time qualifier and three-time national champion Broncos. Garey Smith's Vikings (27-8) advance into their first quarterfinals appearance in four trips to the national championship and will square off against Shawnee State (Ohio) Saturday at 1 p.m. Hastings' season ends with a record of 31-4.

The Broncos took an early first-half advantage, but Grand View kept the gap within reach. Bailey Schechinger's bucket with 4:19 remaining gave the Vikings their first lead to go up by one. Hastings exchanged the deuce to go back up by a single point, but that was the last lead it would hold. A jumper by Jennifer Jorgensen gave the lead back to the Vikings to end the half and ultimately for the rest of the contest.

In the first half, Grand View had a 44.8 field goal percentage and got 14 points out of Schechinger. Lindsey Ducey provided 15 points for the Broncos, who trailed 30-26 at the break.

The Vikings pushed their lead to double figures on a Jorgensen fast-break bucket (40-30) at the 13:49 mark in second half and led by a dozen with 7:19 remaining. Grand View kept the Broncos contained and did not allow them to get any closer than six points as time ticked away.

Jorgensen nailed 7-of-15 field goal attempts and sunk seven free throws to finish the game with 21 points. She also snagged a game-high 13 rebounds for a double-double. The duo of Schechinger and Jamie Sickles had 16 and 15 points, respectively. As a team, Grand View shot 47.9 percent from the floor, including a blistering 52.6 percent in the second half.

Hastings had three players averaging double figures, but Ducey was the lone offensive component for the Broncos in the losing effort. The senior forward closed out her career with a 32-point effort, firing in 11-of-19 field goals, including a pair of triples. Alicia Statler was the second-leading scorer for Hastings with eight points.

The Vikings take on Shawnee State (Ohio) on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live at http://www.gvcradio.com/ or 88.1 KDPS.
