The Vikings traveled to Kansas City over the weekend to take on Avila University where they dropped a doubleheader 15-5 and 7-3.

The Vikings clung on to a 3-2 lead going in to the bottom of the third, but the Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-3 lead. The Vikings responded in the top of the fifth with A.J. Krist (West Des Moines, Iowa) and Chris Cutler singles (Des Moines, Iowa). Jeff Brooks (Forest Lake, Minn.) doubled to bring in Krist, and Kyler Morgan (Carlisle, Iowa) singled to bring in Cutler to cut the Eagles lead 7-5. The Eagles exploded for seven runs in the fifth to take a commanding 13-5 lead. The Vikings could not push anymore runs across in the top of the sixth inning and the Eagles tacked on two more runs to end the game.

Cameron Olinger (Puyallup, Wash.) hit his first home run of the season and drove in two runs. Jeff Brooks ended up with two hits in the first game to highlight the Vikings.

In the second game, the Vikings put the ball in play, but could not find the gaps when needed, losing 7-3. The Vikings held a slim 2-1 advantage going in to the bottom of the third after Cutler drove in Marc Mericle (West Des Moines, Iowa) on a fielder's choice. The Eagles responded with two runs of their own to take a 3-2 advantage and scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 5-2. Kyle Strauss (West Des Moines, Iowa) hit his first homer in the sixth inning, but the Vikings could not find a gap the rest of the game after the Eagles pushed one more run across in the bottom of the sixth, and dropped the game 7-3.

Along with Strauss' home run, Curt Quijano (Des Moines, Iowa) finished 2-3 with two hits and Krist finished 2-4 with two hits as well.

The Vikings look to rebound from their losses when they travel down to Daytona Beach, Florida, for the Spring Break Jamboree. They kick off the tournament with a doubleheader March 12 versus Aquinas College at 10 a.m.
