Day two of the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships has come to an end, and what it day it was for the Grand View track & field teams. The Vikings ended the day with three athletes earning All-American status.
Senior Steven Hughes (Grimes, Iowa) was the first to become an All-American for Grand View today. Hughes completed the final three events in the Heptathlon and placed 6th in the 60m Hurdles (9.05), 4th in the Pole Vault (3.25m), and 13th in the 1,000m Run (3:02.20). He finished in fifth place overall with 4,652 total points.
Two Viking throwers were also deemed All-Americans today in the women's Weight Throw. Sophomore Lauryn Camp (Preston, Iowa) and junior Chelsea Maas (Tucson, Ariz.) placed fourth and sixth respectively, Camp with a toss of 16.6m and Maas a throw of 16.33m.
Competition resumes tomorrow at Noon. Tyler Wells competes Saturday in the Shot Put and Obsie Birru in the 5,000m Run.
