The Vikings are seventh in the team standings with 24.5 points after the first day of the NAIA Wrestling Championships in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Notre Dame leads with 44 points followed by Southern Oregon (38), Missouri Valley (32), McKendree (31), Great Falls (28), and Lindenwood (25.5).
Michael Schultz won his first two matches with decisions over Chad Allen of Calumet College of St. Joseph (5-2) and Michel Joseph of Jamestown (9-6) at 133 lbs.
Travis Evans advanced at 133 lbs. after a 16-4 decision over Josh Rogers of Briar Cliff. Nick Coffman moves to the consolation bracket at 141 lbs. after an 8-4 loss to Kyle Wirkuty of Southern Oregon.
Adam Kurimski was defeated 6-2 by Jordan Ewen of Dickinson State at 149 lbs. At 157 lbs., Issiah Sullivan won his first match 12-7 against Isaiah Gonzalez of McKendree. He then fell 3-1 to Nick Zumwalt of Dickinson State.
Trae Reed won 16-0 by tech fall over Caleb Anthony of Lindsey Wilson at 157 lbs. At 165 lbs. Ty Knowler won his first two matches with a pin against Matt Mueller of Morningside in 3:19 and a 3-2 decision over Austin Ouellette of Montana State University-Northern. Brad Lower also won two matches at 165 lbs. Lower had a 12-7 decision over Pat Nord of Jamestown and a15-4 decision over Noah Hatton of Great Falls.
At 174 lbs., Glenn Rhees won decisions over Daniel Bedoy of Calumet College of St. Joseph (15-2) and Drae Cox of Lindenwood (9-3). Jordaryl Logan was pinned in 6:41 by Michael French of Great Falls at 184 lbs.
Justin Rau won his first match at 197 lbs. with a 10- decision over Clint Whitley of Sioux Falls and was then pinned by Ronald Lee of Southern Oregon in 4:16. At 285 lbs., Derek Nightser lost a 7-2 decision to Willie Wiggins of Lindenwood.
