Despite being down by 20 points in the second half, the No. 17 Grand View battled back to get within five points for a shot at the MCC Tourney title, but fell short losing to No. 13 Iowa Wesleyan 62-54 Monday night in Mount Pleasant.
The score was tight through most of the first half with four lead changes and the score tied four times. The score tied at the 5:41 mark, Iowa Wesleyan went on a 14-0 over the next two minutes to take the largest lead of the half, 32-19. Grand View closed out the half with five straight points to keep them within striking distance trailing 32-24 at the half.
Wesleyan outscored Grand View 17-5 in the first eight minutes if the second half to take its largest lead of the game, 49-29. Things turned around for the Vikings as the Tigers went scoreless the next six minutes and the Vikings scored 13 straight points, including 10 straight free throws. Jennifer Jorgensen had eight points in that span and her layup with 4:06 left cut the Iowa Wesleyan lead to 53-48. GV would get no closer as the they were forced to foul and IWC's regained a double-digit lead with :30 left. Amy Vos closed out the game with two free throws for the final score of 62-54.
Jorgensen finished with a game high 23 points on 6-of-10 shooting and was 10-of-11 from the free throw line. Bailey Schechinger added 14 points and a game-high seven boards. Micah Reed chipped in nine points and three assists.
The Vikings (25-8) will wait until Wednesday to see if they have earned an at-large bit to the NAIA Div II Women's Basketball Championships held March 10-16 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City. The brackets will be released at 3:30 p.m. On Wednesday live on CollegeFanz Sports Network
