The Grand View softball team traveled to the UNI dome in Cedar Falls last Friday. The ladies went 2-0 in exhibition play against Iowa Lakes Community College.
In game one, senior pitcher Kylee Jones had a good outing with four strike-outs and no runs scored. Freshman Lauren Vitiello came into close in the seventh inning and struck out one batter. The defense was solid, only letting one run score in the seventh inning. After taking a 2-0 lead in the first, senior Erin Liebe got a two-out base hit, followed by senior Gabby Grgurich's base hit. Senior Meghan Tomlinson connected for another two-out base hit to score both Liebe and Grgurich. Grand View won game one 4-1.
Freshman Dacia Miller had a good first outing and pitched the first five innings of the second game. Sophomore Meagan Belieu pitched the next three innings and Vitiello closed out the game again with a two-inning showing. With the help of Tomlinson's two base hits and junior Sarah Thomas' two doubles, Grand View won the game 7-4.
The Vikings open the regular season with a four-game stint at Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma, February 27-28
