It was a total team effort by the GV women's team in today's 88-51 rout of MCC foe Clarke College held this afternoon Des Moines. The No. 19 Vikings shot 58.3% from the field and got 40 points from its bench in the win.
Clarke made a valiant effort to stay with the Vikings and was somewhat successful in doing so in the first half. Grand View was tough in the first half behind Jenn Jorgensen's (Dayton, Iowa) 14 first half points and a 60% team shooting performance. The Vikings led by as many as 19 points, 32-13, with seven minutes remaining in the half. Clarke kept themselves in the contest with a 16-4 run including a basket at the buzzer and GV led 36-29 at halftime.
Grand View dominated the second half outscoring the Crusaders 52-22. All Vikings in uniform saw action today and GV's largest lead was 39 points on two occasions.
Jorgensen led Grand View with 16 points and three steals. Jamie Sickels (Readlyn, Iowa) added 11 points, 5 assists, and four rebounds. Bailey Schechinger (Manilla, Iowa) was 5-of-6 from the floor for 10 points. Jordyn Thompson (Newton, Iowa) was 2-of 2 from behind the arc scored eight points. Micah Reed (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) led the team in assists with six.
The Viking defense held Clarke to 28.8% in shooting and outrebounded the Crusaders 45-22.
The Vikings (22-7, 12-3 MCC) travel to Cedar Rapids on Wednesday to face Mount Mercy in the last MCC regular season game of the year. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
