Saturday afternoon's road win over one of the top teams in the Midwest Collegiate Conference was a big win for the 16th ranked Grand View Vikings. Making the win over more special was senior forward Corey Viet's 27 point scoring effort to lead the Vikings. Viet's 27 points in Clinton on Saturday afternoon gave him 1,016 total points in his two-year career at Grand View University.

The senior forward from Ackley, Iowa, entered the game against Ashford University only needing to score 11 points to reach the 1,000 point milestone. Viet's 11th point of the afternoon came from the charity stripe early in the second half. The senior forward finished the afternoon a perfect 14-of-14 from the free throw line and 6-of-9 from the field, while dishing out 7 assists and grabbing 4 rebounds in the 72-58 MCC victory. Viet attended Kirkwood Community College following a stellar high school career as a Cougar on both the hardwood and football field. As a sophomore at Kirkwood College, Viet was named as a second-team all-region player.

Last season, Viet was selected as the Midwest Collegiate Conference Newcomer of the Year. He was an integral part of the Vikings winning the MCC regular season title and earning an at-large bid to the NAIA Division II National Tournament. To go along with his Newcomer of the Year award and first-team all-conference selection, Viet was selected last season as an NAIA All-American.

Currently, Viet is second in scoring in the league (19.1) and seventh in rebounding (6.7), while helping guide the Vikings to a 21-6 overall record.
