The Grand View women's indoor track & field team had four national qualifying performances and three school records at the Cornell College Hilltop Open held Saturday in Mount Vernon.
The team of Betsy Craig (West Point, Iowa), Jordyn Schertz (Blakesburg, Iowa) , Melissa Dewey (Pocahontas, Iowa), and Obsie Birru (Des Moines, Iowa) won the Distance Medley Relay with an NAIA "A" standard qualifying time if 12:40. 23. Three individuals also hit national qualifying marks. Freshman Gretchen Lamar (Des Moines, Iowa) won the 55m Dash in a "B" standard qualifying and school record 7.32 seconds. Sophomore Lauryn Camp (Preston, Iowa) was second in the Weight Throw with an NAIA "B" standard and school record mark of 14.95m. Senior Courtney Heid (West Branch, Iowa) finished second in the 55m Hurdles with a "B" standard and school record time of 8.74 seconds.
Other top individual performances by the Viking women included a third place finish in the Triple Jump by Latasha Moore (Omaha, Neb.) with a jump of 10.15m, a fifth place finish in the 200m Dash by Taylor Handsaker (Nevada, Iowa) in 27.60, and sixth places finishes in the 400m Dash by Tabatha Carlson (Swea City, Iowa) in 63.98 and by Chelsea Maas (Tucson, Ariz.) in the Weight Throw with a toss of 13.59m.
A new school record of 10:02.55 was set by the 4x800m Relay team of Moore, Birru, Dewey, and Craig and the 4x400m Relay team took third place in 4:11.37.
The Viking women next compete at the MCC Championships on February 13th in Sterling, Illinois.
