The Viking women extended their win streak to seven games with a 68-61 win over MCC opponent Ashford this afternoon in Clinton.
The Saints took a 3-2 lead on a three-pointer but after that it was all Vikings thanks to a good shooting and a strong inside play. The Vikings shot 63% (17-27) from the field and 57% (4-7) from three-point range to take a 46-33 lead in to halftime.
The women came out strong in the second half extending their lead to 53-35 on a Bailey Schechinger (Manilla, Iowa) jumper, but the Saints went on a 16-2 run to cut the lead to 54-52. The Vikings would end up controlling the paint and made their free throws down the stretch to win the game 68-61.
Schechinger led the way with 20 points on 8-15 shooting and was 4-7 from the free throw line. Jenn Jorgensen (Dayton, Iowa) was strong again in league play with 13 points, 15 rebounds, and four assists. Beth Ehlers (Sioux Rapids, Iowa) made two key three-pointers at the end of the game to finish with six points and played key minutes to seal the victory for the Vikings.
The Vikings (21-6, 11-2 MCC) look to extend their win streak to eight games when they host conference leader Iowa Wesleyan, Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 5:30 p.m.
