Schulz led the Vikings with 20 points

The Waldorf men's basketball team shot a sizzling 43 percent from behind the three-point line to knock off the #17 ranked Vikings (19-6, 8-4 MCC) in Forest City on Wednesday night. The Warriors used an early start to jump out and take a 14-2 lead over the Vikings, which propelled them to the 83-77 upset on the home floor.

Grand View trailed much of the first half until they were able to tie the score up at 31 with four minutes to play. The Vikings then pushed the lead to four, before Waldorf answered with a two and a late three-point shot from Karl Dehesa to take a 38-37 lead into the break.

The second half saw both teams exchange leads and tie the score numerous ties. The Vikings held a four point lead with under four minutes to play but were unable to score on their final possessions, and the Warriors connected on their free throw attempts to close out the contest.

The Vikings shot just under 47 percent from the field, connecting on 27 of their 58 field goal attempts. However, Grand View was unable to capitalize from the foul line, shooting 65 percent for the game.

Grand View was led in scoring by senior Greg Schulz with 20 points, including six three-pointers. Senior forward Corey Viet grabbed nine rebounds and scored 17 points for the game. Off the bench sophomore Kevin Smith scored 15 points for the Vikings.

The Viking will look to rebound on Saturday when they travel to Clinton to take on one of the hottest MCC teams in Ashford University. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
