The Viking women overcame a slow start to win its sixth game in a row, defeating Waldorf 74-61 in MCC play tonight in Forest City.

The Warriors jumped out to an 8-1 early lead in opening minutes of the game. Grand View warmed up and tied the score 8-8 at the 14:07 mark. Waldorf regained a four-point lead twice in the next three minutes before GV tied the score for the third time at 18-18 with 9:14 left in the first half. The Vikings then went on a 17-2 run to build its largest lead of the half 33-22. Waldorf closed the gap 35-38 with an 8-0 run and Grand View led 41-31 at the half.

The Warriors made a couple of unanswered buckets in the first minute of the second half to get within six points, but would get no closer in the contest. A 13-4 run put the Vikings back up by double digits 57-44 at the 13:26 mark. Waldorf hit a three-pointer and a pair of free throws to trail just 57-49 before Grand View took command with a 12-4 run to end the Warriors' chance of a comeback and led 69-53 with 5:11 left in the game. The Warriors were forced to foul and the Vikings hit 5-of-6 free throws in the final two minutes of the game.

A balanced scoring attack was led by Jenn Jorgensen's (Dayton, Iowa) 17 points. Bailey Schechinger (Manilla, Iowa) collected a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards. Jamie Sickles (Readlyn, Iowa), Micah Reed (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), and Amy Vos (Newton, Iowa) added nine points apiece.

As a team, Grand View shot 50% from the floor (26-of-52) and 73.1% (19-of-26) from the free throw line. The Vikings held the Warriors to 34.5% in shooting and outrebounded the Warriors 36-33.

Grand View improves, to 20-6 overall and 10-2 in the MCC. Grand View remains in second place in the league behind Iowa Wesleyan at 11-1. The Vikings next travel to Clinton on Saturday to face Ashford in MCC action. Game time is 1 p.m.
