The Viking men's track & field team competed at the Wartburg Multi on Friday and the Wartburg Triangular on Saturday.
On Friday, Pete Westerkamp and Matt Smalley competed in the Pentathlon. Westerkamp placed second with 2,997 points and Smalley was fourth with 2,832 points.
Saturday produced many highlights for the men. Jordan Adams (Lamont, Iowa) won the Weight Throw with an "A" national standard qualifying distance of 16.13m (52' 11"). Steven Hughes (Grimes, Iowa) won the High Jump with a jump of 1.93m (6'4"). The Distance Medley Relay team of Drew Messerschmidt (Dallas Center, Iowa), Hughes, Taylor Bohnsack (Wilton, Iowa), and Chris Nealy (Des Moines, Iowa) took first place with a time of 11:01.88.
Other notables were Smalley's fifth place and school record in the Pole Vault (3.85m-12' 71/2") Cory Kunze's (Mingo, Iowa) third place finish in the 55n Hurdles (8.06), Tyler Wells' (Des Moines, Iowa) second place finish in the Shot Put (14.21m-46' 7 ½"), and third place finishes in both the 4x200m Relay and the 4x400m Relay.
The Vikings next compete at the Cornell Hilltop Invitational on February 6th.
