The Viking women's basketball team won its fourth consecutive game with a 71-58 win over rival William Penn in MCC action tonight in Des Moines.

GV went up 10-5 early in the game. WPU went on a 7-0 run to take the lead 12-10 at the 13:59 mark. The Vikings were up 15-14 when the Lady Statesmen went on an 11-3 run over a five minute stretch for a 25-18 lead, the largest lead by either team in the first half. The Vikings responded with an 8-0 run to retake the lead 26-25 with 2:26 left in the first half. The teams traded buckets in the closing minutes of the half and William Penn led 30-28 at the break.

The Vikings turned up the intensity on both ends in the second half. Grand View got to the free throw line and held the Lady Statesmen to 29.7% shooting from the floor to take command of the game. Grand View led just 41-40 with 9:03 left in the contest before going on an 18-2 run for the largest lead of the game with 2:39 left. William Penn cut the lead to 11 points, 65-54, with 1:12 remaining, but was forced to foul. GV knocked down 6-of-8 free throws in the final minute to win 71-58. The Vikings made 22-of-28 free throws in the second half.

The Vikings shot 47.7% (21-of-44), 100% from the three-point line (2-of-2), and 77.1% from the free throw line (27-of-35). Grand View held William Penn to 31.4% from the field.

Jenn Jorgensen (Dayton, Iowa) led Grand View and all scorers with 22 points along with six rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and three steals . She was 5-of-9 from the field and 11-of-14 from the free throw line. Danielle Ballard (Boone, Iowa) was 5-of-6 from the floor and finished with 13 points, six rebounds, and two blocks. Bailey Schechinger (Manilla, Iowa) added 12 points and seven rebounds. Micah Reed (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) chipped in eight points and a team-high seven assists.

The Vikings improve to 18-6 overall and sit in second place in the MCC at 8-2. Grand View hosts Viterbo (6-17, 2-7 MCC) in MCC action on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
