The Viking women's basketball team encountered its second overtime of the season in as many games Monday night in Davenport. GV again won the OT battle defeating No. 17 St. Ambrose 80-78.
The score was tight through much of the first half. St. Ambrose led 14-13 at the 11:26 mark when the Vikings went on a 16-2 run to build the largest lead of the game 29-16 with 5:35 left in the half. SAU answered with a 10-2 run of its own to cut the lead to five points. Grand View led 33-26 at the break.
It took SAU just five minutes into the second half to erase the GV lead and tie the game 38-38 at the 15:26 mark. The lead changed four more times in the contest. Grand View took a seven point lead, 55-48, with 3:45 remaining in the game. The Queen Bees battled back to tie the game 57-57 with 1:47 left. A bucket by Amy Vos (Newton, Iowa) put GV up 61-59 with :25 left, but St. Ambrose's Ali Dolphin hit a jumper with :05 on the clock to send the game into overtime.
In the OT period, the teams traded buckets back and forth and neither team led by more than two points. Two free throws in the final :21 by Jenn Jorgensen (Dayton, Iowa) put GV up 70-68 and a last chance three-pointer by Dolphin missed the make to give Grand View the win. Dolphin finished with a game-high 31 points.
