It was a tale of two halves Tuesday night for the Vikings. For the first twenty minutes the Vikings struggled to find their outside shot and did not have the answer for Simpson's perimeter attack. But the second twenty minutes saw the number 7 ranked Vikings take control in the paint, while defensively holding Simpson College to 18 points.
Grand View travelled to Simpson College in Indianola and were led in the scoring column by senior Corey Viet (Ackley, IA) with 22 points. Viet scored eleven points in each half, while connecting on eight of nine free throw attempts for the game. Giving the Vikings a huge lift on the glass and defensively was senior guard Matt Banzhaf (Ackley, IA). Banzhaf led the Vikings with 13 rebounds, five offensive, while holding the Storm's leading scorer to only nine points.
Simpson built a 36-30 first half lead begin strong inside play from senior Tim Dunlavy. Dunlavy had 14 first half points, while Zach Barragan was a perfect three-for-three from behind the three-point line.
Junior Bryant Kucera (Cedar Rapids, IA) put together a good first half to help keep the Vikings close. Kucera shot 3-of-5 in the first half for seven points in ten minutes. Senior reserve Danny Neville (Bondurant, IA) finished the first twenty minutes with 2 assists.
The Vikings (9-2) will be action again Monday, November 30th when they travel to play Faith Baptist in Ankeny. Then Grand View will open conference play on December 2nd at home against Saint Ambrose University.
