The Midwest Collegiate Conference has announced its men's soccer all-conference honors for the 2009 season. Thirty athletes were recognized as part of the all-conference teams as voted by the coaches, including 14 to the First Team and 16 to the Honorable Mention Team.
Six Grand View players were honored as All-Conference performers. Senior defender Trevor Cushman (Burlington, Iowa), senior forward Armin Mujdzic (Des Moines, Iowa), senior midfielder Chris Scott (Elderslie, Scotland), and sophomore goalkeeper Darren Martin (Dumfries, Scotland) were voted to the First Team. Junior defender Craig Hughes (Kilsyth, Scotland) and freshman Ryan Adamson (Dumfries, Scotland) were selected to the Honorable Mention Team.
Grand View senior midfielder Chris Scott (Elderslie, Scotland) was voted as the MCC Player of the Year. Scott was a key for the Vikings in the midfield offensively and defensively this year as the Vikings finished in a tie for second in the MCC standings. Offensively, he finished the season with three goals and two assists for eight points. Defensively he was a part of a team that finished second in the conference in goals allowed (22) and goals against average (1.07) and third in shutouts (seven).
"I know Chris will take his selection of POY as a team honor," said Grand View Head Coach Blair Reid. "That is the kind of individual Chris Scott is.He truly epitomizes the team-first concept. I am very happy and proud of Chris. (He is) a 100% committed, ‘never say die' player who loves the game. His selection is the result of all the hard workhe has put in over four seasons at Grand View. I am pleased and appreciative that our MCC coaches see the qualities in Chris as a soccer player that justify his selection."
