Viet returns as top scorer for No. 7 ranked Vikings

The Grand View basketball program was ranked as the No. 7 team in the nation in the Preseason NAIA Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll released Monday. The Vikings finished last season ranked 17th after advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NAIA National Tournament.

The Vikings will be led this season by a strong group of returning players, including seven of their top 8 scorers. Among the returning seniors is Second Team All-American selection Corey Viet, who returns after averaging over 17 points per game and grabbing over 6 rebounds per game last season. Along with Viet, are MCC All-Conference team members, Grant Burns and Greg Schulz. Burns led the MCC in assists per game last season, finishing with 5.5 assists per contest. Schulz shot over 39 percent from behind the arc last season and averaged over 9 points per game. Seniors Matt Banzhaf and Joey Terpstra will bring much needed experience to the Vikings. Banzhaf, the Vikings top defender, and Terpstra, an inside-out threat, will be key components for the 7th ranked Vikings.

Grand View will take its highest ranking in school history on the road this weekend, as they open the 2009-10 season Friday night and Saturday afternoon at the Grace Classic in Omaha, Nebraska.
