The Viking men's soccer team celebrated its Senior Day in "Grand" style with a 5-1 win over Clarke College in MCC action today in Des Moines.
All five of Grand View's seniors that were recognized today started the game for the Vikings. The game was scoreless most of the first half until Grand View finally settled in and freshman Ryan Adamson (Dumfries, Scotland) scored in the 37th minute assisted by senior Armin Mujdzic (Des Moines, Iowa). Two minutes later senior Augustine Faiz (Des Moines, Iowa) scored to put the Vikes up 2-0. Senior Chris Scott (Ederslie, Scotland) scored Grand View's final goal of the half assisted by Adamson and the Vikings led 3-0 at halftime.
Adamson wasn't finished for the day as he added another goal assisted by Faiz in the 56th minute to give GV a 4-0 lead. Mujdzic scored his second goal and the Grand View's final goal of the day in the 82nd minute.
Clarke's Izzy Hamsa was able to slip one past the Viking defense and with the GV keeper out to score teh Crusaders only goal late in game in the 86th minute.
The Vikings outshot the Crusaders 26-10 and were 13-5 in shots on goal. Senior keeper Joe Waithanji (Des Moines, Iowa) made four saves in the goal.
Grand View improves to 8-4-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the MCC. The Vikings next travel to Davenport to take on St. Ambrose in MCC play on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Game time is 4 p.m. at Davenport Soccer Complex.
