The Viking men's soccer team took on Ashford University in MCC play Saturday night in Des Moines. The Saints received votes in the last NAIA poll on Tuesday. The two teams battled for 110 minutes  through rain and challenging weather conditions in a game that ended in a 2-2 tie after two overtime periods.

The Vikings were first on the board early in the match. Ryan Adamson (Dumfries, Scotland) sent a hard shot past the Ashford keeper at the 12:00 mark. Ashford tied the match near the end of the first half when Kori Phillips scored for the Saints.

The Vikings again took the lead in the 55th minute when Trevor Cushman (Burlington, Iowa) finished on a rebound shot by Jonny MacAdam (Glasgow, Scotland). The celebration was short-lived as the Saints' Eddie Garza again tied the game four minutes later with a goal in the 59th minute.

The score remained tied through the rest of the match and the first overtime period. The Saints appeared to have scored the game winner with less than two minutes remaining in the second overtime, but were offsides and the goal was rescinded and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

The Vikings outshot the Saints 16-11 and were 11-9 in shots on goal. Keeper Darren Martin (Dumfries, Scotland) was solid in the goal and made several great saves, finishing with seven for the night.

The Vikings (6-4-1, 2-0-1 MCC) next host Iowa Wesleyan on Tuesday in MCC play. Game time is 5 p.m.
