Head Coach Mike Woodley and his Grand View University football team travelled to Waldorf College to take on the Warriors Saturday afternoon. The Vikings (3-2, 2-0 MCC) used an impressive ground attack and defensive effort to defeat the Warriors 45-3. Grand View took control of the football game early, leading 31-0 after the completion of the first quarter. The first score of the afternoon came off the foot of Grand View's sophomore kicker Blake Steil. Steil's short field goal was followed on the next possession by a Lawrence Taylor touchdown run. The Vikings defense then held the Warriors offense to a three-and-out, forcing the home team to punt to Grand View's explosive senior Titus Bland. Bland took the punt at his 35 yard-line and returned it 65 yards for another Viking touchdown. The next touchdown of the first quarter came when quarterback Taylor Bennett hooked up with Darin Davis for a 25 yard touchdown pass. The ensuing kickoff was fumbled by Erskinte Henderson of Waldorf College and was recovered by Grand View's Titus Bland. Following the fumble recovery the Viking's Daryl Ford carried three straight times, finding the end zone on his third carry for Grand View's final score of the first quarter.

Grand View's sophomore running back Daryl Ford found the end zone again in the third quarter when he scored on a nice 24-yard touchdown run. The final score of the afternoon for the Vikings came when quarterback Charles Gregory scored on a 30-yard run of his own.

Statistically, Grand View was led in rushing by Ford who carried the ball 16 times for a total of 146 yards and 2 touchdowns. Quarterback Taylor Bennett passed for 111 yards, connecting with Davis 3 times for 30 yards. On the ground, Grand View outrushed Waldorf 264 yards to 149 yards, while scoring 4 rushing touchdowns on the afternoon.

Defensively, the Vikings frustrated Waldorf's quarterback RocTerrius Hobbs, forcing him into three interceptions. Junior linebacker Raytron Lamar found his hands on one of the Vikings' three interceptions and returned it 25 yards. To go along with his one interception, Lamar finished with 9 total tackles. Fellow junior linebacker E.J. Peterson also had 9 total tackles, including two sacks. Grand View's defense sacked the Waldorf quarterbacks eight times Saturday.

Next up for the Vikings is a home contest against William Penn University (3-2) on Saturday, October 3. The 1:00 pm game will be homecoming for Grand View. Come out and support the football team in their pursuit of a homecoming victory against William Penn University.
