Des Moines, Iowa Grand View women's soccer showed up with strong finishing again to upset the No. 16 Ravens of Benedictine College 2-1 Wednesday evening at James Cownie Soccer Complex.

The ball bounced back and forth possession between the teams, each generating opportunities in their offensive third in the first 20 minutes. Throughout the match, the Vikings were outshot by the Ravens 23-7, 9-4 on goal but were able to capitalize on their opportunities.

Grand View put themselves on board first off a corner kick in the 21st minute of play. Elle Ritchie delivered the ball into the box where Yazzelle De La Fuente (SR/Grand Prairie, TX) connected with her head to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead to enter halftime.

Benedictine adjusted their formation to start the second half, generating several scoring opportunities for themselves. In the 65th minute of play, Raven's Ambuul broke through the Viking defense to tie the game 1-1.

Grand View was relentless, giving it all they had to put another past the Raven defense. In the last minute, Viking freshmen Haley Waseskuk (FR/West Des Moines, IA) cut her defender, ripping a left footed shot over the Raven goalkeeper to win the game. The Vikings improve to a 7-6  overall record and 4-3 in the conference.

The Vikings host Missouri Valley Saturday, October 14 with a kickoff set for 7 pm.
