Kansas City, Missouri – For a second consecutive week, the Grand View University Football team appeared at the 7th-spot in the NAIA Coaches' Top-25 Poll.

The Vikings are now 5-1 overall. Last week, Grand View defeated the MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers by a final score of 38-24. The contest featured a game of runs. The Pioneers went on a 17-0 run in the 2nd-quarter and took a 24-10 lead into halftime. The Vikings went on a 28-0 run in the 2nd-half.

The Viking offense took a different approach to do its part to garner a victory. In the five previous games, the passing attack averaged 374 yards/game, while the rushing attack averaged 172 yards/game. Against MidAmerica, Grand View pounded the ball on the ground carrying the ball for 372 yards. The Vikings were led by seniors Jordan Knock (SR/Gilbert, IA / Gilbert HS) and Travien Smith (SR/Mckinney, TX / North HS) who gained 147 and 120 rushing yards respectively. For both players, this was a single game career high.

The Viking defense continues to display great resiliency. On two different drives against the Pioneers, the defensive unit found its back against the goal line but was able to keep the home team out of the end zone. The defense also showed this bend-but-not-break mentality in their ability to keep opposing offenses from converting on key plays. The Vikings forced two turnovers-on-downs versus MidAmerica. Currently, they are ranked No. 6 in opponent 4th-down conversion percentage at 25%.

For the 7th-straight week, Saint Francis (Ind.) earned the No. 1 ranking. Other Heart of America teams that made the Top-25 Poll were: Baker (2), Benedictine (14), and Peru State (RV). The full rankings can be seen below.

Grand View will have a bye next weekend. Their next game will take place on Saturday, October 14th against the Bobcats of Peru State in Des Moines at Duke Williams Stadium. Kickoff starts at 1:00 pm. This will be the first divisional game for the Vikings in the 2017 season. The matchup features a contrast in offensive styles. The Vikings showcase the 2nd-rated passing attack in the nation, while the Bobcats display the 2nd-rated rushing attack.
