Fayette, MO – (RV) Grand View men's soccer team fought a hard 110 minutes battle to end in a 1-1 tie against the No. 14 Central Methodist Eagles Saturday evening. Grand View moves to a 5-3-2 record and 3-1-1 in the Heart while Central Methodist moves to 8-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the Heart.

The Vikings struck early in the game to put themselves up 1-0 in the 12th minute of play. The attack started with a ball from Augustin Ortiz (SR/Marshalltown, IA) to Claudio Repetto (FR/Genova, Italy) who beat his defender down the line and sent the ball into the box. Eagle's goalkeeper, Vince Gelei, got a hand on it popping it into the air allowing Simone Raiola (JR/Triuggio, Italy) to connect off a header and score his 10th goal of the season for the Vikings. The game entered halftime with the Vikings leading 1-0.

Both teams created opportunities through the second half but the Eagle's were able to tie the game up 1-1 in the 82 minute play off a corner kick. CMU's Wilfred Nyamsi found the back of the net after Grand View's Alexander MacGregor (FR/Urbandale, IA) saved the initial attack.

The Vikings were outshot 22-12, 8-6 on goal, by the Eagle's. MacGregor recorded six saves, playing all 110 minutes for Grand View. Raiola and Repetto led the Vikings with four and three shots, respectively. The Vikings gave up 10 corners kicks to the Eagle's and earned only one.

Grand View is in action next Tuesday, October 3, against non-conference opponent Bellevue. The game is set to kickoff at 7 pm in Des Moines at James Cownie Soccer Complex.
