Des Moines, Iowa -- Grand View used a pair of first-half goals to take an early lead, then added two more after the break to defeat Mount Mercy, 4-1, in a Heart of America Athletic Conference men's soccer match on Tuesday night at James Cownie Complex.

Grand View's Mark Taylor (SR/Glasgow, Scotland) scored twice in the span of two minutes to give the Vikings an early 2-0 lead by the 14th minute. In the 12th minute of play, David Gomez (SR/Marshalltown, IA) played a through ball to Taylor who beat the goalkeeper lower 90. Taylor struck again off a cross and reflection from Jordan Lucas (SR/West Des Moines, IA).

Mount Mercy cut the deficit in half with a goal in the 19th minute. MMU's Pero Dzakic hit a free kick which was tipped by Viking goalkeeper, Alexander MacGregor (FR/Urbandale, IA), but Mount Mercy found it and put themselves on the scoreboard to enter halftime 2-1, Vikings.  

Simone Raiola (JR/Triuggio, Italy) finished a corner kick just four minutes into the second half and later assisted a goal by David Gomez in the 70th minute to finish off the scoring.

Grand View held a 25-15 advantage in total shots, including a 15-9 edge in shots on goal. Gomez led Grand View with four shots along with Raiola. MacGregor recorded 8 saves for the GVU as well. The Vikings improved to 5-3-2 and 3-1-0 and Mount Mercy fell to 5-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the Heart.

The Vikings will travel to Fayette, MO Saturday, September 30, to take on the No. 14 Eagles of Central Methodist. The Eagles are currently top in the conference with a 4-0 record and 8-1 overall.
