Des Moines, Iowa - The Grand View men's soccer team moved to a 2-0 record in Heart of America Athletic Conference play Tuesday night after defeating William Penn 5-3. The Vikings move to a 4-2-1 over record on the season.

Grand View was put themselves on the board early in the game when Sam Graving (SR/Johnston, IA) found the back of the net off a shot from Simone Raiola (JR/Triuggio, Italy) that hit the crossbar in the eleventh minute of play. Raiola made it a 2-0 lead with another goal in the 29th minute. With a little over five minutes left in the first half David Gomez (SR/Marshalltown, IA) connect with a through ball inside the 18-yard box from Mark Taylor (SR/Glasgow, Scotland) to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

Minutes into the second half Raiola put one away for the Vikings off a ball from Sam Graving. Two quick William Penn goals minutes to follow made it a 4-2 game.

Taylor got a breakaway in the 74th minute of play, finishing with a beautiful chip over the keeper to put the Vikings up 5-2. Statesmen answered minutes later with a goal coming from outside the 18.

Patrick Zwingenberger (FR/Mannheim, Germany) was credited with five saves in the win. Grand View recorded 21 shots to the Statesmen's 10 and awards three corner kick.

Tuesday was the 24th meeting between the two programs, and in a series that has been dominated by Grand View (22-2 all-time).

Grand View returns to play this Saturday for homecoming here in Des Moines. The Vikings will host Baker University with a kick-off time set for 2 pm.
