Des Moines, Iowa - The Grand View women's soccer team battled Heart of America Athletic Conference opponent William Penn for over 89 minutes until they were awarded a penalty kick to win the game 1-0. The Vikings advance to a 4-4 overall record and 1-1 in conference play. William Penn moves to a 3-3, 0-2 Heart.

The Vikings outshot the Statesmen 12-9 and entered the final minute of regulation in a scoreless tie. Grand View put high pressure on the William Penn defense, creating a scoring chance for Yazzelle De La Fuente (SR/Grand Prairie, TX) who was fouled inside the box awarding the Vikings with a PK with less than a minute left in regulation play. Ella Ritchie (SR/Derby, England) stepped up for the Vikings and sank the PK into the lower right corner putting the Vikings up 1-0.

Caitlyn Dayton (SR/Crystal Lake, IL) held strong in the back for the Vikings recording four saves. Kyra Savage (JR/Crystal Lake, IL), Sydney Gutschenritter (SR/Glenwood, IA), Haley Waseskuk (FR/West Des Moines, IA) and Ritchie all had two shots each for the Vikings.

Grand View returns to play this Saturday for homecoming here in Des Moines. The Vikings will host Baker University with a kick-off time set for 4:30 pm.
