Lamoni, Iowa – Grand View men's soccer opened the 2017 conference season with a 4-2 defeat over Graceland University. The Vikings advance to a View 3-2-1, 1-0 Heart record on the year.

Grand View struck early as Claudio Repetto (FR/Genova, Italy) followed in and finished Simone Raiola (JR/Triuggio, Italy)'s shot that hit the goal post in the seventh minute of the game. Momentum continues in favor of the Vikings early in the game. Daniel Kozma (SO/Budapest, Hungary) played a ball through the Yellowjacket's back line to find Sam Graving (SR/Johnston, IA). Scoring the second goal for the Vikings. Graceland trailed 2-0 at the break.

In the 64th minute of play, the Vikings awarded the Yellowjackets a free-kick just outside the 18-yard box. Robert Turk stepped up to take the free kick for Graceland, striking the ball well that sailed in upper right corner. Graceland cut the lead to 2-1 in favor of Grand View. Minutes later another foul was committed by the Vikings, giving the Jackets another free-kick. Turk again stepped up to the ball, blasting another free-kick past the keeper to even the score a 2-2.

The Vikings did not let this set them back as Repetto found the back of the net again in the 80th minute of play. Trailing by a goal, Graceland was forced to flood numbers high resulting in the Vikings putting another goal past the Jackets before the contest was over.

Grand View outshot Graceland 18-7 in the contest, 11-5 on frame respectively. Repetto tallied four shots with Raiola and Graving recording three each. Patrick Zwingenberger (FR/Mannheim, Germany) recorded two saves, playing the whole game.

The Vikings host William Penn September 19 at Cownie Complex with a start time fo 5 pm.
