Hastings, Neb.- (RV) Grand View traveled to take on the defending 2016 NAIA National Champions No. 4 Hasting College, but fell short in a 2-1 loss at Lloyd Wilson Field.

The first half was a battle, the Vikings (1-2-1) and Broncos (3-2) went back-and-forth with shots. Grand View was able to put themselves on the board first when Simone Raiola (JR/Triuggio, Italy) connected with a ball from Claudio Repetto (FR/Genova, Italy) in the 12th minute to take a 1-0 lead over the Broncos.

This Vikings lead was short lived though, as Cori Hill (JR/Indian Harbor, FL) was assessed a yellow card with a bad tackle in the box. Daniel Whitehall then got a penalty kick for the Broncos that he made to tie the match 1-1.

In the 15th minute, the Broncos took a 2-1 lead off a goal from Daniel Simonis. The game continued to be a tense battle between teams until the end of the first half.

In the second half, the pace of the game slowed down quite a bit with Grand View playing two men down before the Broncos finally took the match 2-1. Grand View was outshot by Hastings, 20-11 and 11-7 on goal, Raiola recorded 7 of the shots for the Vikings.

The Vikings will play again September 8 against Our Lady of the Lake University in Hastings, Neb. Kickoff is set for 3:45 p.m.
