Women's Volleyball - Mon, Sep. 4, 2017

The No. 10 Grand View women's volleyball team travelled to Bellevue, Nebraska to play in the Labor Day Classic over the weekend. The Vikings went 3-1 on the trip, dropping only to No. 24 Madonna University (Mich.).

 In their first game, Grand View faced No. 15 Doane University (Neb.) and won 3-1 (27-25, 25-11, 22-25, 25-22). Juniors Courtney Twit (West Des Moines, Iowa) and Kelsey Redmond (Iowa Falls, Iowa) led the way offensively with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Sophomore Trystin Luneckas (West Branch, Iowa) finished with 40 assists and junior Jordyn Rittman (Ankeny, Iowa) had a team-high 28 digs. Junior Meagan Miller (Floyd, Iowa) added 16 digs and sophomore Keely Larkin (Johnston, Iowa) finished with 11.

The Vikings faced (RV) Oklahoma City University in the second game of the day and came away with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-19) sweep. Senior Erin Wenzel (Clinton, Iowa) had nine kills in the win while Miller added 8 and Redmond had 7. Luneckas tallied 26 assists and Rittman led with 11 digs.

Grand View's first loss of the weekend came on Saturday to No. 24 Madonna University 3-1 (25-20, 14-25, 25-23, 25-18). Wenzel and Redmond led with 14 kills while Miller racked up 10. Setter Luneckas had 46 assists and 10 digs. Grand View was led defensively by Rittman with 25 digs.

The Vikings wrapped up the weekend with a sweep of Warner University 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-16). Wenzel had a team high 13 kills while sophomore Autumn Wood (La Vista, Neb.) and freshman Baylie Katcher (West Des Moines, Iowa) each had five kills. Luneckas finished with 29 assists and eight digs while Rittman totaled 18 digs.

Grand View (7-5, 1-0) continues Heart play tomorrow (Sept 5) when they host Culver-Stockton (3-7, 0-1). Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Charles S. Johnson Wellness Center.
